A brief history of UZSC

Utrecht Oude Gracht, Hamburgerbrug and Dom tower

The Dutch water polo club UZSC (Utrechtse Zwemclub Star Combinatie) was founded on July 13th 1945. It was formed by the merger of UZC (Utrechtse Zwemb-Club) and Star. The history of UZC goes back to April 25th 1912 and because of that UZSC celebrated its centennial in 2012. Until 2013 UZSC had an outdoor pool at its disposal. An inflatable hall over the pool made sure the water did not cool down too much in winter.

The opening of a new indoor swimming pool in 2013 provided momentum. Since then the first teams, men and ladies, fought themselves to a position in the highest levels in the premier division. The men won the Dutch Championship three times (2014/2015; 2015/2016; 2016/2017) and the ladies one time (2106/2017). They are among the best teams in the premier league. Some UZSC players have been selected in the Dutch national water polo teams. UZSC has about 30 teams and more than 600 members.

UZSC’s hometown is the well preserved medieval university city Utrecht. In its centre you will find the overwhelming Dom Tower, the tallest church tower in the Netherlands.
